East Mississippi Community College offers classes at four different sites. This includes Naval Air Station Meridian and Columbus Air Force Base. EMCC officials credit the array of locations for the continued increase in enrollment. For the first day of classes, enrollment hit 5,000. With registration ongoing, that number is expected to increase even more.
'We have two more sessions where we will enroll,' says EMCC President, Dr. Rick Young. 'We'll end up well over 5,000, which puts us in the top ten in Mississippi in college size.'
Aside from its nursing program, EMCC's electric lineman program is one of its fastest growing courses. To broaden this division, efforts are underway to also establish coursework for power plant operators at the school.
