East Mississippi Electric Power Association hosted a media day Thursday, inviting representatives to a briefing on how the co-op will handle power outages during a major catastrophic weather event like Hurricane Katrina.
EMEPA officials say they want their customers to know they'll be ready if disaster strikes.
"We go to our members as well and encourage them to prepare for those kind of long, major disasters that take place, unfortunately in our area," said Wayne Henson, general manager of EMEPA. "And we hope we don't see any, but occasionally, we have them, and we need to be prepared for those."
EMEPA serves about 35,000 people in east Mississippi.
