Saturday morning's rainy weather didn't stop people from taking part in the Fatherhood Initiative held on E-Street in Meridian.
There were motivational speakers, 3-on-3 basketball, plenty of good food, as well as other fun and games. The purpose of the event was to help fathers who don't live with their children to reconnect with their kids. Officials tell us today's program exceeded their expectations.
We know that once you reconnect with your child, we've got a better citizen, a better student, we've got a better contributor to society," organizer Ron Turner says. "Less likely to be involved in criminal activity. Less likely to be involved in the cycle of poverty."
"And we want everybody to learn about how to be a better parent, a better father and to be a part of this community," Mayor Cheri Barry says."
Newscenter 11 meteorologist Brian Hutton, Jr. participated in a grilling competition during the event.
