Friends of Bobby Martin Host Benefits

Meridian, Miss. Employees of Peavey Electronics are coming together to raise money for a colleague facing serious health issues.

A website has been created to raise money for Bobby Martin, who is hospitalized in Birmingham. He needs both heart and kidney transplants.

Martin has worked for Peavey for 34 years and is well-known for his assistance running sound for bands and charitable events in our area.

Organizers Keith Avera and Gypsy Carns shared information about what attendees can expect at the Nov. 16 concert at the Temple Theatre.

"Praise and worship. Some country with Britt Gully. I'm going to be doing Gospel blues," said Carns. "Probably some 60s medleys in there. Seventies music. Eighties music. It's going to be a wide variety. And some rock."

The Nov. 16 concert at the Temple Theatre starts at 7 p.m. and will likely continue till midnight. Tickets are $15 for adults, $5 for children under age 10.

Food and drinks will be available, such as soft drinks, beer, pizza, hot dogs, and popcorn. All proceeds, except beer sales, go to the Bobby Martin Fund.

There will be a drawing for a special guitar autographed by Marvel Comics creator, Stan Lee.

A 3-man golf scramble is being held Saturday, Nov. 9, at Briarwood, with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Cost is $70 per person. For information or sponsorship details, call Randy Boyd Thompson at 601-479-3281.
