Fund Could Clean Up Problem

The Meridian City Council is expected to allocate an additional $100,000 in its next budget for special projects.
This would include the cutting of grass along roadways.

Residents of Ward 4 in west Meridian say they believe this will benefit their neighborhoods the most, especially in ridding the area of unwanted snakes.

"They have come up to the house," said resident J.W. Henderson. "Many of the areas that are grown up are owned by the state. The state says it doesn't have the money to do the cutting and maintenance of it and we say give it to the city and you won't have that problem."

Ward 4 city councilman Jesse Palmer says city officials are attempting to work out a compromise with the state to obtain some of the abandoned properties that it now owns.
