Fundraising Benefits Local Child in Need of Transplant

Meridian, Miss. Fundraising efforts were ongoing Saturday for a local boy in need of a bone marrow transplant.

A steady crowd was on hand at the Temple Theater in Meridian on Saturday afternoon as members of the community purchased fish plates in honor of 21-month old Dawson Smith. Smith's dad is the women's soccer coach at Meridian Community College. The family says this all means a lot to them.

"It's a great feeling just to know that we have so many people in the community that support us and love us," Mike Smith says. "I had no idea that we had this many people that care for us the way they do."

Ernie Haase and Signature Sound performed at the Temple Theater on Saturday night to also benefit smith and his family.
