Furloughs Affect NAS Civilian Personnel

Meridian Naval Air Station, Miss.

Monday marked the first day of several months of once-a- week furloughs for civilian employees at NAS Meridian.

Roughly 300 employees there had to stay home without pay. They'll continue to do so every Monday until the end of September.

About eighty percent of the navy's civilian employees are affected by the cuts. The cuts are part of the recent federal budget sequestration.

Other services at the base are also expected to be cut back over the next three months.
