The State Games of Mississippi were the hosts of Business After Hours in downtown Meridian Thursday.

The monthly get together organized by the East Mississippi Business Development Corporation was a great setting to get the word out about the economic impact that State Games has each year.

"We have some new sponsors this year because they heard the economic impact we have," says State Games Executive Director Carolyn Smith.

According to a study conducted during last year's Games, State Game 2011 brought in $6.5 million dollars in revenue in Meridian and Lauderdale County.

"it's a bigger impact than anyone could even imagine, 6.5 million dollars, you can't fathom what that's like," says Meridian Community Development Director Connie Royal.

The 2012 State Games of Mississippi officially get underway May 27th, with the mountain bike race at Bonita Lakes Park.

Please, please come spend money in Lauderdale county, we are so poor here. The city and county need the tax revenue to pay the light bill this month!!!!

What about the people working behind the scenes? Don't they get any sort of recognition?
