Hall Says East Mississippi Ready for Upturn

Mississippi's central district transportation commissioner was in Meridian Thursday to speak to the Lions Club.

Dick Hall re-capped some of the recently completed projects that he thinks will help east central Mississippi with economic development.

Hall pointed to the Hawkins Crossing interchange at I-20/59 and two of three phases to 4-lane Highway 19 between Meridian and Philadelphia.

"I don't know what the economy's going to do, but the point is we're getting everything ready for when it does turn," said Hall. "And when things do happen again, I think Meridian, east central Mississippi area, is going to be a prime target for something like that. because we are going to have the infrastructure in place that is necessary to attract industry."

Hall said the state has one more piece of right-of-way to acquire for phase three of the Highway 19 North four-lane project.

He also said a survey found Mississippi highways ranked 16th best of all fifty states.
