Harper Reacts to Healthcare Ruling

Thursday's ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court that President Barack Obama's healthcare plan, known as Obamacare, is constitutional, has once again left a nation divided and Republicans vowing to fight it.

"What we found is that even bad policy and bad law can be ruled constitutional," Mississippi Congressman Gregg Harper says. "Which is what the court did. I think the ruling caught just about everybody by surprise by the way it came down."

Congressman Harper says the healthcare law is not constitutional in the commerce clause, but that the Supreme Court decided it was under a tax. Harper tells us the President promised Americans he would not raise taxes on anyone.

"And we find out this a tax that is going to effect every person in this country," Harper says. "And so now, we are faced with the only option to fix this is to repeal this law."

Democratic House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi defended the bill on Sunday morning television, saying it is not a tax.

"It's a penalty," Pelosi said on NBC's Meet the Press. "It's a penalty that comes under the tax code for the one percent perhaps of the population who decide that they're going to be free riders."

Harper says for the healthcare law to be overturned, certain things will have to take place in the November election, such as electing Republican Mitt Romney as President. Harper says Romney would then declare the new law as something that needs to be repealed.

This would be an increase in taxes. How else would this be paid for? We can't take any more from Social Security. This woule also cause a $500 billion cut in Medicare. This would significantly hurt hospitals and an even more struggling prehospital EMS. If Medicare and Medicaid can't be managed correctly, then how do we expect Obamacare to be managed correctly. The same thing would happen to the healthcare system like it has for every other country that has a socialized healcare plan; the care give to each patient would decline. We would be set back 50 years and there would not be any way to improve medical procedures. Yes, Canada has a government ran insurance, but there are people that choose to come to the U.S. to receive better treatment and the advanced technology. Be prepared to have someone tell you when and which doctor you can and can not see.

Well our dear ol government has taxed us for everything we have, everything we have saved, everything that we have spent, everything we have earned, and now it is legal to start taxing us for things we don't have(if we don't buy insurance we get a tax penalty for not doing so). When are we going to say enough is enough and start taking back our country while we still have one. Gotta love the Career Senators and Congressmen that enact laws for us to live by yet they don't have to abide by them. Time for a house cleaning in Washington, D.C.

If this law stands with the shortage of nurses and doctors we have now it will be a nightmare if you get sick. They will have to lower the standards they have now to get more people into the healthcare industry so the quality of care will suffer, like it is in other countries.

You are correct waterman. Obama will lie about anything if it is about destroying this nation. He is a communist who hopes to take away everything hard working people have made including your right to vote.

For it to be legal it has to be a tax. But the Pelosi turns around and says it is not a tax. This would make it illegal. Does this mean that obama's own people do not know what it is? So this means that obama lied, or that it is not legal, which is it.
