Meridian's acting police chief says his first two weeks on the job have been hectic.
Mayor Cheri Barry appointed Assistant Chief James Sharpe as the acting chief on February 4th. Sharpe says since then, he has spent a lot of time getting briefed on situations he wasn't aware of prior to being named acting chief. He tells Newscenter 11 that operations within the department have not suffered over these last couple of weeks though.
"I've been looking at revamping a lot of our rules and regulations," Sharpe says. "There's areas that we need to emphasize. A good part of that is dealing with the public, how we respond to calls."
Sharpe served as acting chief once before when Lee Shelbourn retired as chief in July 2012.
