A local cemetery hosted a special wreath laying ceremony this afternoon in honor of the late Jimmie Rodgers.
The ceremony was held at Oak Grove Cemetery to pay tribute to the Meridian native and Father of Country Music. It honored the anniversary of Rodgers death, May 26th, 1933. Officials say Rodgers accomplishments have made a huge impact on the city of Meridian.
"The Meridian native who brought Meridian to the world, and who has brought the world to Meridian, and is taking Meridian to the world through his music and significant contributions to American music and the development of music," Jimmie Rodgers Foundation President Betty Lou Jones says.
Rodgers is also honored on his birthday, September 8th.
