The federal cuts that were attributed to the budget sequester in Washington will apparently not affect Meridian's air traffic control tower.
Officials at Key Field said they learned Friday that the tower will not close later this year.
Hundreds of towers across the U.S. were scheduled to close because of automatic budget reductions.
Officials did not immediately have details as to why the tower was spared.
