A trailer theft in Lauderdale County led to quite a scene Sunday night at the intersection of Highway 45 and Hamilton Avenue in Meridian. Three different related incidents occurred in the events leading up to this, and Lauderdale County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Ward Calhoun says that three different agencies are looking into it.
"We've turned the shooting part of this investigation over to the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations to look into because that occurred on state highway, and the Meridian Police Department is dealing with the crash of the vehicle itself."
The event ended with a single vehicle rollover into a creek in Meridian, and authorities are still looking for a person of interest.
"His name is Linnie Jerome Swanner II. He is a 31 year old white male and anyone who knows his whereabouts or can contact him, we'd like to speak with him in regards to this particular case."
During the pursuit, shots were fired from the homeowner directed at the suspect, and that resulted in a third person not involved with the theft or chase to be hurt."
"There is an individual that was injured. We're still waiting on the results on some medical tests to determine exactly how he was injured."
Right now it is unknown who will face what charges and Director of Public Affairs for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety, Warren Strain, says that "There is an ongoing investigation, and that it would be premature to release any elements of it."
As soon as the investigation is complete, the case will be handed to the District Attorney.
