Bank Makes Large Donation to MSU Meridian

Mississippi State University Meridian students can now stay up-to-date with the latest stock market information thanks to a $150,000 gift from BankPlus. BankPlus wanted to help higher education in Meridian, and with MSU Meridian's Division of Business now downtown, it was a perfect fit.

Leon Harris, President of BankPlus Meridian, says, "We feel like education is very important to Meridian and Lauderdale County, and this was our way of helping out the community and helping out Mississippi State University by this contribution."

Some of the items this endowment will provide will help in the classroom, but the biggest impact may be the impression this gift makes on students.

Dr. Steven Brown, dean of MSU Meridian, tells us, "For our students, this is a shining example of the way they can benefit their communities when they get out and start doing their work as well. This provides technology for us; it provides instructional materials. Really, BankPlus has partnered with the University for the benefit of not only the students we have now, but students for many years in the future."

Not only will this endowment help current students who are looking to further their education in a business field, but this will also help future students in a brand new program.

"We have a, I think, exciting new program we're just now getting approved through the University, the Bachelor of Applied Technology, B.A.T. degree in health care services, providing a professional background, a business background, and a science background for folks who are going to be working in the medical community. This endowment provides opportunities for us to aid those students as well," says Brown.

The Bachelor of Applied Technology is slated to begin Fall 2013
