Locals Prepping for Isaac

With Isaac possibly setting his sights for the Gulf Coast, many local businesses are beginning to prepare for an influx of customers. Cash Saver Store Director David Lott says that his staff is making sure they have what they need.

"We've looked at our inventory of batteries. We're standing on a fairly good supply of batteries and flashlights, canned meat products. We've done just about everything we can do in this point in the game to prepare if it does come this way."

Grocery stores aren't the only place that may see an increase in business before the middle of next week, Meridian is a popular place for coastal residents to evacuate to when bad weather hits. Dede Mogollon, the manager of the Holiday Inn in Meridian, says she's already started getting calls from people seeing if they have vacancy.

"They don't traditionally make their reservations this far out, but they do call, check on availability, and make sure they know how the city is sitting. We would anticipate starting to get reservations over the weekend if projected landfall is the same."

Even though hotels and grocery stores serve two very different purposes, they both share the fact that they have a plan for when Mother Nature strikes.

"We'll just have to get out there and keep the water out there, keep the batteries out there, keep the bread out there, keep the canned meats out there, and take care of our customers."

"All hotels have hurricane preparedness plans. We do just like everyone else does at home. We make sure we have batteries, our radios are working, all of our emergency lighting is working."

Cash Saver and the Holiday Inn are prepared to take additional steps this weekend when meteorologists know more about where the storm is headed.
