Meridian Community College is preparing to celebrate its 75th anniversary later this week.
Honor students Monday brought fliers and green ribbons to Mayor Cheri Barry's office. She will proclaim Thursday Meridian Community College Day.
MCC vice-president, Dr. Barbara Jones, said she believes that getting the students involved in the community benefits everyone.
"It's very important that our students see things like this and see government in action because we think they are going to become leaders in our area," Jones said. "They are going to be some of our top citizens in this area, and we just want to expose them early to the things that will make that happen."
Events at MCC will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday on the steps of Ivy Hall. The public is invited.
