Philadelphia Awarded MDOT Grant

Jackson, Miss. The Mississippi Department of Transportation announced that it has approved funding for a surface transportation project that will overlay and rehabilitate segments of roadway in the city of Philadelphia.

MDOT says the project funds total $753,000 and are comprised of 80 percent federal funds and a local match of 20 percent.

“The approval of these funds will have a positive economic impact on the city of Philadelphia,” said Transportation Commissioner Dick Hall in a news release. “These streets serve several thousand motorists daily. It’s important that we provide the city with a means to maintain this primary route.”

The project will restore portions of Herman Alford Memorial Highway and Pecan Avenue that serve up to 6,400 vehicles daily. These routes provide access to several businesses throughout the community, are vital to the local economy and serve as access to state highways and the Philadelphia Municipal Airport.
