State Tracks TS Isaac

State officials say they will keep a close eye on Tropical Storm Isaac in the coming days as it heads toward the Gulf of Mexico. The latest forecast from the National Hurricane Center includes much of the eastern part of Mississippi and west Alabama.

"Even though the models have shifted the probable track to the east, we don’t want to get caught napping," said MEMA director Robert Latham. "Now is the time for Mississippians to go over their personal preparedness plans as well."

MEMA will make a decision about activating the State Emergency Operations Center Sunday with a possible deployment of the State Emergency Response Team down to the Gulf Coast Monday morning, depending on the forecast.

Latham said he will visit Hancock, Harrison and Jackson counties Monday and Tuesday to make sure local officials have everything they need.

The tropical weather forecast models for this storm have changed with each update and that means all residents should treat this event as if it is going to make a direct hit on the Mississippi-Alabama coast.
