The Meridian Housing Authority will host its 1st Annual Fatherhood Initiative and E Street Festival Saturday, June 9. E Street will be closed to traffic.
Activities start at 7:45 a.m. and will continue into the afternoon.
The festival is free, open to the public, and aimed at bringing fathers closer to their children, to try and improve the entire community.
"Those individuals who have fathers in the home are less likely to be involved in criminal activity, more than likely are going to be the students who are successful in school, more than likely are going to be those students who are going to avoid that cycle of poverty," said Ron Turner, Sr., executive director of MHA.
There will be grilling contests and a three-on-three basketball tournament.
