Jackson police say a man suspected in the fatal shooting of a 1-year-old girl has turned himself in to authorities.

WLBT-TV reports 27-year-old Jarvis Harper turned himself in Monday afternoon in the shooting death of Kiona Sherel.

The girl was shot in the head Sunday night and died at a hospital. Fifty-year-old Mary Jackson was shot in the hand and is expected to recover.

Both were outside a house when the shooting occurred about 11:40 p.m. Investigators say the two victims were caught in gunfire from a nearby altercation.

Police say they've responded to numerous incidents in the neighborhood.
