GREENWOOD, Miss. (AP) -- The Leflore County Coroner's Office says the body of a man in his 20s was found hanging in a tree in a field.
Coroner Debra Sanders tells The Greenwood Commonwealth that the victim -- a black male between the ages of 21 and 26 -- was found about 12:30 p.m Friday by two men who work nearby. Her office got a call about the discovery about an hour later.
Sanders says she's trying to identify the man before the body is sent to the Mississippi Crime Lab in Jackson for an autopsy. She says the man might have worked as a painter, since his clothing was splattered with paint.
Sanders would not speculate on whether the hanging was self-inflicted.
Sen. David Jordan, D-Greenwood, says the FBI is in Greenwood investigating the case. A spokeswoman for the FBI in Jackson did not immediately return a telephone call for comment.
