Meridian Christmas Tree Lighting

Meridian's annual tree lighting attracted a few hundred of the city's residents to come get in the holiday spirit. Favorite carols were sung by the Boys and Girls Club Choir and the Northcrest Baptist Church Choir. There was also a special solo performance by one of Broadway's "The Forgotten Carols" performers. All of that fanfare led up to the lighting of the city's 34 foot Christmas tree, and all of the preparation that led up to that moment wasn't an easy task.

The City of Meridian's Cultural Affairs Coordinator, Casey Null, says that, "It takes quite a few days to get everything put together and to make sure that it's all proportioned and to make sure that all the electrical work that's in place is also working correctly."

The tree lighting was just the kick off to the city's numerous holiday events. This Friday, a special event will take place at Union Station, and there will be something for everyone there.

"Friday, November 30th we have the Holiday Express Train that will be at Union Station and that is a free event that starts at 4:00 PM, and not only do they come for free, but they also give back to the community. They give to the Salvation Army, and that's just a wonderful opportunity to have them here in our community."

As the Merry Meridian events continue, the city wants to invite everyone to come and enjoy the holiday season.

"We just want to encourage everyone to come out. It's going to be a full weekend on Saturday. You can check the website on www.meridianmainstreet.com and see all the events that are taking place, and there's something for everyone in your family."
