Meridian Church Hosts Thanksgiving Meals

This is the fifth year in a row that Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church has cooked a Thanksgiving meal for those in need, and church member Latricia Temple says they are expecting about 100 people each night, and that's more than they've served in years past.

"We are anticipating a large crowd and with that we will do whatever is necessary to accommodate the mass."

Church members were hard at work cooking meals for both days of feeding. Monday's menu featured red beans and rice and baked chicken, while Tuesday will feature baked chicken and homemade scalloped potatoes. They say the reason they do it is for the people in need.

"Tonight they can expect some soul food from our heart. It's a community effort and we want to make sure the community feels like it's the holiday season, so what we're going to do is we're going to feed them., and we hope they'll stay and fellowship with us."

Pastor Timothy Jones believes that it's the church's duty to provide to those who are less fortunate, and to help them any way they can.

"We want to be able to meet needs. We want our community to know that we are a beacon of light for them, and we are just trying to reach as many people as we can during this time of the season, and to show God that we're grateful for the blessings that he's given to us."

Ms. Temple would like for any and every one to come visit Tuesday evening.

"Just come out and have a fellowship of gospel and blessed time."

The Thanksgiving feeding will continue Tuesday from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church located at 1803 10th Avenue in Meridian.
