Meridian, Miss. The Master of Ceremonies for the Meridian Memorial Day ceremony said it's not just about honoring the veterans who attended the program, but about honoring fallen veterans.
Dozens gathered in front of the Lauderdale County Courthouse Monday morning to remember why it is we have the freedom that we are able to enjoy today. Everyone Newscenter 11 spoke with had a personal reason for taking part in this occasion.
"Well, my father was in World War II," VFW Chairperson David Sloan said. "I was in the Vietnam era. One of my family members was in the service and some gave their lives, so that's how I feel I can honor them too."
"I always consider Memorial Day one of my best times of year to reflect on my family," Master of Ceremonies Van "Mac" McCarty said. "I had two uncles who were killed in World War II. One in the Pacific and one in Italy, so it hits pretty close to home."
While Memorial Day is a day set aside to remember veterans, many feel that everyday should be a day to remember the vets.
