Meridian Road Projects

A work session Wednesday was focused on city bond funds that have been approved to go toward road improvement throughout Meridian.

Public Works Director Monty Jackson presented the council with a map of trouble spots throughout town.

"We know there's more need than we have money," says Jackson. "so hopefully we can get the worst ones right now, and maybe have money for next year."

Public works ranked the trouble spots, trying to zero in on the roads that have to get fixed soon. But council members will be pouring over the list and making adjustments in the coming days.

"I think we have some agreement on the major thoroughfares," says Ward 1 Councilman George Thomas. "I think the main discussion will be on the streets in the neighborhoods."

However the funds are distributed, council members say they want to agree on a plan soon, and get this project started by the fall.

To Concerned Citizen, you want the city to pay for alignments? That logic has more holes in it than a Michael Moore film. You finally have an administration looking to pave streets, and you would rather they use a portion of that money to pay for realignments. Which would mean less money for paving and would perpetuate more need for realignments. That is just one hole. Not to mention the bureaucratic nightmare of trying to analyze which realignments are actually caused by city streets, county roads, individual driving habits, etc. Your idea is moronic.

They need to strip and repave the section of road at the temple theater all the way to the record store cause that section has caused me to have my truck to b aligned at a shop in meridian 2 times, I honestly think it should be the city's job to pay for the alignments since the road has been in poor shape for years and years, and it is sad at how bad a lot of the roads in meridian are.

Well I hope this start won't end like 20 st. Maybe if the city could set aside money in the annual budget for a street paving
