Meridianite Remembers Elizabeth Taylor

Jim Farr of Meridian worked for a long time at Stanley Korshak, an exclusive retail store in Dallas, Tex.

Farr said Elizabeth Taylor made many trips to Dallas and was a regular customer, usually through an assistant.

One day, Farr said she requested the store stay open for her past the 6 p.m. closing time, so she could do some shopping herself.

"We stayed there until 11 p.m. She bought countless things. I never talk about what a customer spends, but she bought many, many purses. And she said 'you have to stop somewhere'. And I said 'why?', and she said, 'well enough is enough, and we passed on to other things."

Farr says Taylor had a delightful personality and was one of the last real movie stars.

About six weeks ago Taylor entered Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, where she died of congestive heart failure Wednesday at age 79.
