An Air Force officer who was raised in our area received two Distinguished Flying Crosses with Valor at the Pentagon last week.

Major John B. Creel is on the right in the photo posted with this story. He received the honor for two separate battles in Afghanistan.

Creel, along with Col. Christopher Barnett flew a chopper through multiple fire fights and a sand storm to save the lives of more than 40 special forces soldiers.

Major Creel was raised in the Clarkdale community and graduated from Clarkdale High in 1985.
