The Mississippi Senate has given final passage to a
bill that could close the state's only abortion clinic.

The bill would require doctors working at abortion clinics to be OB-GYN certified and have admitting privileges to a local hospital.

The clinic's owner told The Associated Press that all of its physicians are OB-GYN's, but only one has admitting privileges. The other two live out of state for safety reasons, which the clinic says has made it difficult for them to secure admitting privileges.

The Senate Thursday sent House Bill 1390 to Gov. Phil Bryant's desk.

Bryant has supported bills that regulate abortion.

Bill author, Rep. Sam Mims V, of McComb, says he hopes the bill will reduce abortions in the state.
