Mississippi's 2013 Distinguished Young Woman visited a Meridian school Tuesday.
Mackenzie Ross spoke to fourth and fifth graders at Poplar Springs Elementary School. This is National Be Your Best Self Week.
Ross talked to students about ways to improve themselves. She stressed having specific goals.
"One of the five elements of the Be Your Best Self program is be ambitious," said Ross. "And for me that means playing the piano. That has always been a lifelong goal of mine; that's actually what my talent for the Distinguished Young Woman program is. And so especially these students because they are older, I hope to encourage them to take up some sort of goal or dream like that and really take it to their heart and really do everything to make that dream come true."
Ross is also busy preparing for the national Distinguished Young Woman Program which will take place in Mobile June 27-29.
