Meridian, Mississippi Friday was a special day for student pilots at NAS Meridian.
Commander of Training Air Wing One, Captain Brian Goskowicz, presided over the Naval Aviator designation ceremony Friday afternoon. The pinning of the Wings of Gold is a longtime naval tradition, marking the culmination of specialized jet training at NAS Meridian.
"They start to learn basic jet flying characteristics, flying formation with other airplanes," Captain Goskowicz says. "Then we go start some tactical operations, ultimately learning how to practice dropping bombs, and going out to the ship and learing how to be a tailhook naval aviator."
There were four student aviators who earned their Wings of Gold Friday.
