Collinsville, Miss. Not many people know about Camp Eagle Ridge. It began just over three years ago, and has steadily added more features. The latest one is a high ropes course that Mississippi Power is currently installing. Dan Frist with Camp Eagle Ridge says that the new course will allow the campers, who normally wouldn't be able to attend a summer camp, to work on important life skills.
"We're trying to teach kids about those qualities of grit, determination, and persistence to achieve success not only in school, but in life. Those qualities are just basically the foundation in which kids can really overcome challenges in life."
Tommy Jackson with Mississippi Power says the seven poles were donated by Thompson Pole Company, and it only took Mississippi Power workers three days to build the course. He also says they were more than glad to donate their time, because this will give back to the community for a long time.
"This is where we live, and this is where we work, and obviously we want to support the people in our communities that are doing great things that will give back to the community, and this is one of those projects that we saw that would definitely do that for years to come."
Ralph Morgan also donated equipment and manpower to build a lake and pier at the camp, and Frist says all of the donations are greatly appreciated.
"The help of these people is making the vision and the mission of Camp Eagle Ridge a reality, and without them, this would not be possible, so we certainly appreciate that."
