A new center designed to assist older adults recently opened in Meridian.
The Horizons Geri-Psych Center located at Anderson Regional Medical Center's south campus helps those 65 and older who may have emotional, mental or behavioral problems.
Patients are able to work with their peers and their families in the therapeutic process.
Hospital officials say these services promote healing and help the patient achieve an optimal level of functioning.
"Often times, the elderly population, they go through a lot of experiences and people need to be aware of these," said Dr. Terry Jordan, director of Horizons. "And it's good to know that there is help for them."
The facility opened in October 2012. It can house up to 16 patients at a time.
