On Friday morning the current chief of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, Miko Beasley Denson, broke a tie on a deadlocked tribal council vote which ordered a new Chief's election in a race he lost.
Denson was beaten by Phyllis Anderson in a runoff election Tuesday. It is not clear when the new election will be, which candidates it will involve, or if there will be any further appeals before it takes place.
The Choctaw election commission initially approved votes that were cast after 8 PM the night of the general election, but when the appeal came before the Council Friday morning, Denson broke an 8 to 8 deadlock, paving the way for another election.
