The Mississippi Department of Public Safety says there were no fatalities on highways covered by the Highway Patrol during the long Memorial Day holiday.

The holiday period ran from 6 p.m. Friday through midnight
Monday.

Master Sgt. Johnny Poulos says state troopers investigated 101
accidents during the period with no fatalities and 35 injuries
reported. The state counts only fatalities on highways patrolled by
state troopers.

Poulos says troopers made 216 DUI-related arrests and issued 975
tickets for seat belt violations.

There were nine reported traffic deaths during the 2011 holiday
period.

The Highway Patrol used federal grants to beef up patrols for
its "Click It or Ticket" campaign, which Poulos says contributed
to the reduction in fatalities.

Thinks they done have all the facts since you've reported that one died following a wreck on saturday. They may have jumped the gun on that report.. or do they not consider it a fatality since the death occurred AFTER the wreck.. and not on the scene... TRAGIC.
