The Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians says a tribal police officer was wounded and a tribal member died in an incident late Tuesday.
In a written statement, the tribe said a senior police officer responded to a call for help in the Pearl River community. That response led to the officer being wounded and the death of tribal member, Jordan Willis.
The tribe says the officer received medical treatment and is expected to make a full recovery.
Officials say the case has been turned over to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, in accordance with policy whenever an officer's weapon is discharged, and the investigation continues.
