Panel Takes Transportation Needs on the Road

A task force working on recommendations to improve Mississippi's transportation system plans three public hearings around the state.

State Sen. Willie Simmons, a Democrat from Cleveland and the task force chairman said that meetings are planned for Dec. 2 at Mississippi Delta Community College campus in Indianola, Dec. 16 at the University of Mississippi in Oxford and on a date yet to be determined at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg.

The Senate task force is looking at funding needs to maintain existing transportation infrastructure and to expand the system.

The meetings will highlight current funding levels for road work and the Mississippi Department of Transportation's need for more money to maintain roads and bridges.
