State Auditor Stacey Pickering has returned 22 pieces of property and equipment improperly obtained by the City of Bassfield to Mississippi's Surplus Property Division.
Pickering says that items purchased through Surplus Property must be used for local and state government purposes.
Pickering says his office determined the items were purchased by Bassfield but were converted to personal use. The items included boats, travel trailers and heavy equipment valued at $309,228. He says the city paid $52,840 of the items.
Pickering says the items were returned to the state and the case has been handed over to prosecutors.
