Meridian Police say they have one person in custody in connection with an attempted robbery at a local bank on Wednesday afternoon.
Investigators say they have a female suspect in custody for trying to rob the Regions Bank on Bonita Lakes Drive around 3:30 p.m. Police say the suspect handed the teller a note and demanded money, but left the scene when she was not given the money. No weapons were involved and police say eyewitnesses helped to capture the suspect.
"Citizens got involved," Lt. Dean Harper says. "They didn't actively pursue her as police do, but as officers arrived on the scene, we had several individuals pointing in the direction she came from. People didn't just in their car and leave and say, I don't want to get involved."
Police spent Wednesday evening questioning the suspect, who is believed to be a juvenile.
