Police Respond to Two Armed Robberies

Meridian Police say they are investigating two armed robberies that occurred around the same time on Thursday night, but in different parts of the city.

Authorities say they were first called to an armed robbery at "Best Bodies" gym on 27th Place, next to McAlister's Deli. Someone close to the victims told Newscenter 11 that the suspect put a gun right in the women's faces, demanding money. The suspect got away with a purse and a cell phone. Investigators describe the suspect as a black male, wearing a black hoodie and a white handkerchief over his face.

Around the same time, police say they also responded to an armed robbery at the Verizon Wireless store on South Frontage Road where the clerk was robbed at gunpoint. Investigators tell Newscenter 11 that the suspect got away. Officers are searching for a tall, slender black male, wearing a black hoodie and a black mask.

No one was injured in either armed robbery. If you have any information that can help police, call Crimestoppers at 601-485-1860.
