Meridian, Miss. Care Lodge brought community members together in Meridian Tuesday in observance of National Crime Victims Rights Week.
Local pastors led prayer for victims of crime and domestic violence.
Elizabeth Merrell, a victim herself, spoke about her experiences, saying she finds it empowering for the community to come together in prayer.
"Someone needs to stand up and speak out and we need to come together and help each other, and try to stop some of the violence that's going on around our city," said Merrell.
Care Lodge offers shelter and services to about 1,000 victims of domestic violence each year.
