Meridian, Miss. A historic preservationist is praising the work of Meridian's Threefoot Preservation Society.
Jim Woodrick is the director of historic preservation at the Mississippi Department of Archives and History in Jackson. Woodrick says the society's work will not only help the building, but the downtown area as well. He says preservation is crucial in a city's effort to revitalize.
"We've had some studies that indicate it's very sound and I believe there will be some interest to develop the building," Woodrick says. "That's really what we need to happen. I think if you see what's happened in downtown Jackson, you can see what's on the horizon for Meridian."
Woodrick says the starting point in revitalization is a community wanting to preserve its heritage. He says that step has been taken in Meridian.
