Protestors On Kewanee Church Road

Some residents in eastern Lauderdale County made good on a promise Friday, standing in front of construction equipment as work on a new road began.

Residents of Kewanee Church Road were out trying to stop work on a road that members of the Board of Supervisors believe will make a curve safer, but residents believe that special treatment is being shown to the landowner who's property lies in the curve.

Friday those upset residents confronted Lauderdale County Road Manager Harris Wilder.

The protesters left after speaking with Lauderdale County Sheriff's Deputies, and work on the site continued, no arrests were made.

How can the county justify work like this when they can't afford to paints lines on highly traveled roads like the Valley Road 'Speedway'?

They really should focus on other roads that need work instead of a road that's a mile from the state line

What a joke!!! The world must be in prety good shape if this is all we have to protest about. Will this road block the residents from traveling the road? Hope Jigford dosn't set up a toll booth. Oh yeah, did Cynthia really get free dirt for her driveway off Mr. Pigfords property today? What a hypocrit! Some "protesters" look like Cuba, Alabama residents to me. Really what a j o k e! Sad joke----

There were no "protesters" from Cuba, Ala. To answer the question "did Cynthia really get free dirt for her driveway off Mr. Pigfords property today"? The answer is NO I did not get any free dirt for my driveway off Jerry Pigford's property. First of all, if he donated the land to the county it is no longer his dirt. Second, if he "donated" the dirt to the county, why were they dumping the dirt back onto the back side of his property. Do your research before opening your mouth! Call me a hypocrite if you like but I have no way to spread this dirt nor is if for my driveway but I refuse to let Pigford have the road and the dirt too!

There is a growing coalition of Lauderdale County residents from outside of Newell's district that is absolutely appalled by what is going on here. We will not forget, and we will do whatever we can to help a worthy successor defeat Newell in his next election. This deal flies in the face of every tax payer in the county. It's an insult.

Nobody cares about wasting tax dollars. This here is when Ray Boswell needs to still be in office,I could almost promise you this would not fly. The bad thing is you had better watch out for the curve before you get to new construction, this is the curve that needed to be taken out but would not benefit nobody.
