The Queen City Fair is just around the corner. Crews are setting up at the Lauderdale County Agri-Center to prepare for the week-long event. The fair kicks off this Monday with rides, games, food, live music and more.

"We are getting everything, the carnival's kind of trickling in," said John L. McRae, event coordinator for the fair. "They usually tomorrow and Sunday will be their big setup days, hanging streamers and flags, getting the stage set up, all that good stuff."

McRae said the fair was an idea his father engineered knowing how much his family enjoyed their time there.

"Meridian used to have a county fair, and that ended and didn't have on for a while. We saw a need," explained McRae. "It's something that I really enjoyed going to as a kid, and something that my dad really enjoyed going to."

So they put the idea into motion and it's been going strong now for 13 years.

This may be the 13th year for the fair, but that doesn't mean you're getting the same old, same old. They like to keep things fresh with new and different attractions from year to year that keep people coming back.

"We started pretty small, and every year we add new things; we try to grow," said McRae. "We try to keep it interesting but still stay true to the county fair mentality."

The number one description boasted by the Queen City Fair is family-friendly. Organizers say there really is something for everyone.

"If you're not a big ride person, we have food, all kinds of food, barbeque, funnel cakes, cotton candy, all the fair staples," McRae pointed out.

Monday is school day when all students receive a coupon for one free ride.
