Quitman, Miss. A request has been made to transfer a dispute involving a student in Quitman Public Schools to federal court.
Representatives from the district did not show up for a scheduled Thursday morning hearing in the courtroom of Clarke County Chancellor Larry Primeaux, who then set a new time of 1 p.m.
The hearing involved a special needs child, whose mother has objected to his school aide being changed.
Almost two weeks ago district officials removed Kendel Allen's longtime aide. In response, an attorney for his mother, Dee Allen, obtained a temporary restraining order to keep the aide with Kendel until the hearing. Allen says that restraining order was violated.
The district is seeking transfer of the case to federal court. Primeaux extended the restraining order until the federal court determines if it will accept jurisdiction.
Quitman Public School District has declined to comment.
