Special education students from Quitman High School got to experience a train ride Friday.
They boarded the train in Laurel and traveled to Meridian.
The ride was a way to teach the students about transportation and help them understand first hand about different modes of travel.
Their teacher says it was a great experience for them.
"In our curriculum, we teach community living skills," said teacher Hope Cooley. "And within that subject area, our students are supposed to have the opportunity to experience a train ride, and what a wonderful way to give them that opportunity."
Nine students were able to participate in the Friday train trip.
