Reed Takes Oath of Office

Meridian's new chief of police was sworn in Wednesday morning.

57-year-old James Reed took the oath of office surrounded by family and friends.

Since being confirmed by the Meridian City Council Tuesday, Reed says he has already met with some officers within the department.

"I've gotten a range of emotions and sentiments and I understand that as a new guy coming in. But I hope to bring enthusiasm and energy," said Reed. "As I said yesterday, my goal is to learn from them as well as sharing my experiences with them to make a much, much better Meridian Police Department going forward."

"Without cooperation it would be hard," said Asst. Chief Buck Roberts. "I've got Chief Reed's back 100%. I support him 150% and will do anything that's required and asked of me."

Chief Reed is a Meridian native, returning home from North Carolina. He has more than 35 years of law enforcement experience, 26 of those years as a supervisory special agent with the Naval Criminal Investigative Service.
