Jackson, Miss. Tate Reeves of Mississippi has been chosen as chairman of the Republican Lieutenant Governors Association. He is in his first term in Mississippi's second-highest office.

Forty-five states have lieutenant governors. Thirty of those positions are up for election in 2014, either as stand-alone offices or as part of a ticket running with a candidate for governor.

The association says Republicans hold 15 of the 19 independently elected lieutenant governorships and 15 of the 26 that are either appointed or elected as part of a ticket.

Mississippi's next election for lieutenant governor and other statewide offices is in 2015.
