Lauderdale County Schools held a retirement reception for teachers and staff Thursday.
Seventeen district employees are retiring at the end of the school year.
Superintendent Randy Hodges says they all deserve to be thanked for their service and congratulated on reaching a milestone.
"We have a wonderful school district and the reason is the people behind it. You're only as good as the people you have in your organization and we have some outstanding people," Hodges said. "So you always hate to see them go but we're excited that they have a new day ahead of them. They've worked hard. They deserve retirement. And we want to wish them the best."
The Lauderdale County School Board met Thursday evening and recognized outstanding students from the 2011-2012 year.
