Sailor 's Body Returned to NAS Meridian

Navy Petty Officer Dominique Cruz, 26, did not report to watch Jan. 18 aboard the USS Halsey.

Her body was found during search and rescue operations Jan. 19.

Officials say she will receive full military honors upon arrival at NAS Meridian Friday at 12:20 p.m.

An escort procession will leave the NAS front gate between 12:30 p.m and 1:30 p.m. onto John Stennis Drive, turn left onto Chip Pickering Drive and then to Highway 45 South.

Cruz was assigned as an operations specialist to the USS Halsey, which conducts maritime security.

    There is no greater love that for a person to lay down her life for that of a friend. You did not even know a drop in the bucket that you gave your life for. Thank you for your service and sacrifice. You are the true Hero of America!
